Charlie Caper: Confidence in Performing and the Bottling Speech

City # 17, Stockholm. Charlie Caper won Sweden’s got Talent, he suggests, because he used the skills he learned on the street to win over his country. He’s busked in over 30 countries for over 20 years, and is many other buskers favourite busker. With a LOT to learn from him, we got him to spend an HOUR giving us tips and tricks about the business. It was an epic trip, starting in Europe and taking us through Asia, Africa and the Americas. Buskers are a group of people who are universally misunderstood, under appreciated and often criminalised. Our videos show them in a way like you’ve never seen or heard them before. Find a performer near you on our apps on Android and…

Circus Problem performing in the streets of Pilsner

Post-trip. Thanks to a great little arrangement with Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey, we got to go on tour with Circus Problem through Prague, Pilsner and Bratislava! They were lively, funny and great to tour with. Also a little difficult to keep up with, once the night was truly underway. Glen Hansard Full Interview (HQ)

City #25, New York. Glen Hansard’s Oscar Winning film, Once, is a semi-autobiographical look at his life growing up as a street performer in Dublin. We got the chance to film him on one of the coldest days in Central Park, where he showed us just how down to earth he still is. Cameos from a hawk and a squirrel. Jaipong music in Jakarta’s Red Light District

City #9, Jakarta. That night we went to Jakarta’s red light district, a network of badly lit roads and underpasses lined with pimps and hos. We asked someone for directions, which we followed, off the road and down a muddy embankment, then right under an unlit bridge. There was noise ahead of us, which we nervously followed. With some surprise, we came across a makeshift stage with a dozen very large speakers covered with tarps blasting jaipong music. On stage were the Jaipong dancers. Still, we left quickly. Wojtek Gasiorowski, amazing bass player @ Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013

City #22, Edinburgh. Wojtek (a.k.a. “Maximon”) defies pigeonholing. He’s a gypsy groove entrepreneur, loopologist, beatboxer and resident of funky town. He’s also now one of our biggest supporters, who we make an effort to watch every year. Great stuff! The Picnic sing an Elvis Hound Dog / Teddy Bear Compilation

City #17, Stockholm. We’d just finished interviewing Charlie Caper when we came across this little group of buskers singing their hearts out. It was a little annoying for them, but we asked if they could repeat their rendition of this Elvis mixup for us. Perth Busker Malachy O’Connor

Pre Trip. To be honest, the person writing this description (Nick Broad) never met Malachy, nor knows anything about him other than his undeniably dreamy eyes are a pleasure to behold. Interview with director Nick Broad after the Toronto Buskerfest

Pre-trip. The crazy, inspiring, beautiful Toronto Buskerfest was the perfect venue to test out couchsurfing, filming, interviewing performers and editing videos on the road. I found that some buskers don’t like being called buskers, even at a buskerfest. And that Toronto’s not very pretty… Support us (and get INSANELY good music from street performers) here: http://patreon.com/busk ABOUT THIS VIDEO SERIES: The Busking Project (http://busk.co) went on a journey to film the world’s most talented street performers.
