Sleep Mode

"Sleep mode or Stand by refers to a low power mode for electronic devices such as computers. This modes save significant electrical consumption compared to leaving a device fully on and idle, but allow the user to avoid having to reset programming codes or wait for a machine to reboot. Many devices signify this power mode by a pulsing LED power light." From Wikipedia *Tip of the day: On windows based computers, do not use sleep mode for a long period of time. I work with IT support for over…

You May Get Wet

Mr. World’s Greatest Dad really lived up to his name here, as he bravely sat in the front row to allow his wife and daughter to sit in the second row, where they were less likely to get soaked. This was one of those shots that I’m happy with, but I had an idea on the last day of the trip that would’ve made this concept (panning Splash) a lot better. Unfortunately, the only shot I ‘nailed’ with that idea has a big ole head in the bottom quarter of…

Attack of the Mice from Outer Space! (Explored)

I thought this shot up on our recent trip while considering doing a "retake" of my current avatar. While the composition isn’t perfect, you try taking a self portrait while on a rollercoaster! I thought it was a fairly unique idea, which brings me to my musings for today… With the recent overly creative work from Jeff, Joe, Matt, and others, it seems Disney Photography is becoming an "arms race" of sorts. Thinking about this, I decided that rather than making any of these creative folks my sworn archnemesis (as…

Zip-A-Dee Lady

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Frontierland Splash Mountain If I ever wanted to party on a riverboat, I think this is the boat on which I would most want to party. The various "Brer Animals" on the boat look like they’re having such a good time, singing and dancing. Thanks for the comments and favorites, everyone! This picture made it to #301 in Explore for February 18, 2009! If you want tips for taking better photos at Disney, read this article! In it, I share advice applicable for everyone (from…

The Gates of Tomorrow!

I know I already have posted a shot that is almost compositionally the same as this one, but I love the reflections in this shot (which the other lacks). Additionally, I thought an apt shot for New Year’s Eve would be one of "Tomorrow". So, hope everyone out there has a safe and happy New Year’s Eve. See you in the future! Thanks for the comments and favorites, everyone! This picture made it to #236 in Explore for December 30th, 2008! If you want tips for taking better photos at…

The Embodiment of the Disney Magic

Often I think we’re our own worst critics (I know I am), but I think sometimes it’s important that we’re our own biggest cheerleaders, as well. Although this photo probably isn’t perfect, I think it’s probably as close as I’ve gotten. It wasn’t until about a week ago that I even thought anything of it, though. After reviewing my Spectro long exposure shots from August, I knew instantly that my favorite (and still my all-time favorite shot) was the one I posted the day after I returned. That shot really…

Me Wench

I have had a lot of difficulty photographing this smoke screen in the past, but I really nailed it in several shots this trip. I liked the human element of this shot. Little known fact about PotC: prior to the 2006 refurbishment, the pirates in the auction scene actually chanted, "we wants the Sarah." Unfortunately for them, I ‘won’ her and the redhead was added to the scene. …that’s obviously a joke. I don’t want to get any hate mail from anyone who despises my "perverse" humor. If you want…

Walt Disney World – EPCOT Center – SpaceShip Earth Welcomes You

While this area has looked better in years past, I think there is no denying that, from this location, the SpaceShip Earth area looks stunning. With your ears enveloped in that wonderful entrance area music, your eyes glued to that magnificent sight, and that warm morning sunlight hitting your face, I don’t know how anyone could be anything less than thrilled about starting the day in EPCOT Center. There isn’t a big reveal as with the Castle on Main Street that really can take one’s breath away, but I think…

“Last Night I Dreamed I went to EPCOT Again”

I thought this sunset/dusk shot of the United Kingdom would be the perfect candidate for HDR treatment. I can imagine it now, heading down this path, with the delightful sounds of the British Invasion bringing the World Showcase pavilion alive! (Bonus points if you recognize the literary/film allusion in the title). Thanks for the comments and favorites, everyone! This picture made it to #188 in Explore for February 24, 2008! Navigating the Highway in the Sky Past Imagination and Blue Skies

It is scenes like this that make me seriously consider retiring to WDW to become a Monorail pilot (if one can seriously contemplate a "retirement career" before beginning an actual career). I mean, look at Jeff’s recent series of shots from the Monorail. You’d get to see that everyday. You’d get to see the Castle everyday. The only drawback, as I can see it, is that currently there is limited guest interaction due to the no guests in the cockpit rule. That makes PhotoPass an alluring alternative, but I think…
